Rule Of Rose - 2006
Rule Of Rose is a 2006 survival horror game with psychological elements. It tells a story of a young woman named Jennifer, who finds herself in an old orphanage full of masked children. She needs to confront her past in order to figure out what truly happened when she was a child, and to be set free.
I personally love this game so much, because of the themes of girlhood, trauma, sapphic love and fairy tales. The old school graphics and mysterious ambience make the game unique. One of my faves for sure!
Silent Hill 2 - 2001
Silent Hill 2 is a psychological survival horror game from 2001. It follows a man named James Sunderland who receives a letter from his dead wife, Mary. He travels to a town called Silent Hill in hopes to find Mary, but is met with a horrendous reality instead.
The story of SH2 is unforgettable and I find myself thinking about it pretty often. How our past will always find itself to us, and how our internal fears are actually the scariest of them all. The characters of SH2 are complex and very well written, mirroring real life issues. I absolutely love the ambience and soundtracks of the game, it’s otherworldly!
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard - 2017
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a 2017 survival horror game by Capcom. In the game you play as Ethan Winters - a man who’s searching for his missing wife in an old plantation, somewhere in the deep rural south. Ethan has to encounter a variety of gruesome monsters in order to save her wife, Mia.
I remember discovering this game back in 2017 when my favorite youtuber played it! I absolutely fell in love with it, because the game truly felt scary. I even got nightmares from it.. Resident Evil 7 was a breakthrough in the Resident Evil-franchise, setting a modern standard to the newer games. I will forever love this game!
Sly 2: Band of Thieves - 2004
Sly 2: Band of Thieves is a 2004 action game following a thief- trio: Sly, Bentley and Murray. In the game your mission is to destroy pieces of a character named Clockwerk that are hidden all around the world.
Sly 2 was one of the first games I ever played on my brother’s PS2, and nowadays I get such nostalgia when thinking about it. The music, fun character designs, unique combat.. It was all perfect for tiny me!
Silent Hill 3 - 2003
Silent Hill 3 is a psychological survival horror game released in 2003. In the game a teenage girl called Heather Mason finds herself trapped in a strange otherworld, trying to escape from a cult that’s after her.
This game touches the hearts of many young women with its realistic depiction of the real-life issues of womanhood. I got attached to it as well, finding the game scarily relatable. The soundtrack and ambience of SH3 are very underrated and deserve more recognition!
